MLK Weekend of Service

The Office of Active Citizenship and Service is excited to begin a new year of outreach in the Nashville community! In remembrance of Martin Luther King, Jr., we invite you to join over 400 students, faculty, and staff members to participate in our annual MLK Weekend of Service on January 16th-19th.

In partnership with Belmont, Lipscomb, Tennessee State, and Trevecca Nazarene Universities, we also invite you to participate in our featured service project on Saturday, January 17th in which we will work with local organizations including Second Harvest, Project Cure, and Feed the Children.

We will end the Weekend of Service with a commemorative series entitled Dismantling Segregation:  Race, Poverty, and Privilege on Vanderbilt’s campus.  This series will focus on the modern-day meaning of segregation and how it should be addressed in issues of race and class today.  For more information about this series, please visit the Vanderbilt MLK Commemoration webpage.

Note:  We will accept project proposals beginning November 17, 2014 through Monday, January 12, 2015.  When your organization’s project has been approved, we will add your project to the OACS website for students to begin signing up immediately.
